The first men’s organization of record at Annunciation was the Holy Name Society which began in December, 1933 with 33 members.  By the late 1950s, the Society had become largely inactive and a chapter of the Knights of Columbus was started circa 1960 under the guidance of Father James French, who was pastor of Annunciation from 1956 to 1965.  The K of C Charter was later withdrawn because the membership was too small to qualify for insurance under the national organization.  As a result, the remaining members became what is now called the Catholic Men’s Club.

Over the years, the Men’s Club has served the parish in many different ways.  They resurrected the Lawn Fete, which had been discontinued in the early 1960s, and donated funds to air condition the Education Building, which was constructed in 1966.  The annual Men’s Club Scholarship was first suggested by Dr. Alan Honaker, a member of the club, around 1985.  It continues to be awarded each year to one of Annunciation’s graduating seniors based on his or her participation in parish life, financial need, and academic achievement in that order of priority.  Over the years, the scholarship has grown from less than $500 to $3000.

The major activities and contributions of the Men’s Club today consist of the annual Scholarship Award, selling ads in the Sunday Bulletin to cover printing costs, hosting the Lenten Fish Frys in conjunction with the Altar Society, and providing the leadership and manpower for projects such as the Summer Festival, renovation of the Annunciation Community Center, spring clean-up and landscaping of lawns and gardens, maintenance of buildings and grounds, and other similar activities.

Membership is open to all men of the parish.  Dues are $5.00 per year and dinner meetings are held the first Tuesday of each month in the community center.
